Cape Town – Police are investigating a double murder believed to be linked to taxi violence in Marlboro, after two people — including a senior official of the Alexandra, Randburg, Midrand Taxi Association (Armsta) — were killed.
According to Alex News, police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that a case of double murder and three counts of attempted murder is under investigation.
The shooting took place in the early hours of the morning in Marlboro Gardens, claiming the life of Armsta chairperson Molefe Moekeletsi.
“Two vehicles that were driving together were ambushed by unknown suspects who were allegedly driving a white BMW,” said Nevhuhulwi.
She added that two people had been confirmed dead, while three others sustained injuries and were receiving treatment in hospital.
“The driver of an Audi [died], and from the Mahindra vehicle, there were four people [in transit], and one person was also shot dead, and the other three have been taken to the hospital,” she said.

According to EWN, an eyewitness reported that there had been a high-speed chase before the shooting. The witness, who was working at a car wash at the intersection of Viola Road and 4th and 8th Streets, said the incident unfolded while he was on duty.
“I saw many cars chasing the one Audi vehicle and then they started shooting from all sides, and then they drove off and then the Audi crashed into the truck,” said the witness.
The road remains closed as police continue their investigations.
