Cape Town – The bail application of Tiffany Meek, 31, accused of murdering her 11-year-old son Jayden-Lee Meek, continues on Wednesday at the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court near Johannesburg.
Tiffany faces multiple charges including murder, crimen injuria, and obstructing justice.
The state opposes her bail, arguing that releasing her would not serve the interests of justice and could disrupt public peace.
An investigating officer told the court on Tuesday that there is a significant risk Tiffany might evade trial if granted bail.
He also highlighted concerns about public safety, citing the strong community reaction to the case and the possibility of vigilante actions if Meek were released.
During the hearing, the officer revealed details from the post-mortem report, stating that Jayden-Lee died from blunt force head injuries.
The report showed deep skull hemorrhaging, cerebral swelling, abrasions on the face and arm, and bruising, but no defensive wounds, indicating the boy did not fight back.
Magistrate Anneline Africa requested the state to provide photo and video exhibits, including schoolwork and the postmortem report, for the court’s review
Tiffany has claimed she has been framed and questioned the police investigation’s handling.
She requested bail and offered her father’s address in KwaZulu-Natal as a place to stay during the trial. However, the court was informed that placing responsibility on the KwaZulu-Natal police to monitor her would be inappropriate, as Gauteng police are tasked with the case.
The state concluded its arguments opposing bail on Tuesday, and Tiffany’s defense counsel is expected to cross-examine the investigating officer as proceedings continue.
