Cape Town – Umhlali police have launched a murder investigation after gunmen ambushed an e-hailing vehicle and fatally shot a 35-year-old male passenger on Tinley Link Road.
According to the North Coast Courier, iLembe SAPS spokesperson Priya Nunkumar-Bukum said the victim’s e-hailing vehicle was cut off by unknown assailants near the contractor’s gate of Palm Lakes Family Estate.
Two men reportedly exited their vehicle and opened fire on the passenger, killing him instantly.
The driver managed to escape unharmed.

“I can confirm that a case of murder is being investigated by Umhlali SAPS,” said Nunkumar-Bukum.
The shooting occurred just days after a joint surveillance operation involving the Tactical Response Team, Umhlali SAPS, and IPSS Security led to the arrest of a 37-year-old man within the estate on October 2, during which illegal firearms and ammunition were seized.
On Tuesday, the Palm Lakes Homeowners’ Association (HOA) issued a statement clarifying that Monday night’s shooting was unrelated to the estate or the earlier police operation.
“While the proximity of the event may have caused concern, please be assured that there is no link to the estate or its residents,” said the HOA.
