Cape Town – South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation has condemned the deadly shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, which left at least 12 people dead and 29 injured during a Hanukkah gathering.
Australian police have classified the incident as a terrorist attack, with one gunman killed, another hospitalised, and investigations ongoing into a possible third suspect.
Dirco extended condolences to Australia, denounced the apparent targeting of Jewish worshippers, and reiterated that there is no justification for terrorism or faith-based violence, reaffirming South Africa’s solidarity with the victims and their families.
“The government of the Republic of South Africa extends its deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the people of Australia following the tragic terrorist attacks in Sydney,” said Dirco spokesperson Chrispin Phiri.
