Parktown — A manhunt is underway for three suspects following the killing of a 33-year-old police official in Temba on Friday, 12 September 2025.
The constable, who was attached to the SAPS Temba Crime Prevention Unit, was fatally shot during a confrontation with suspects in Chris Hani Section, Block G, police said.
According to Brigadier Brenda Muridili, police spokesperson, officers were patrolling the area when they observed a suspicious vehicle, a white VW Polo. When they approached the car, a shootout broke out, resulting in the officer sustaining fatal injuries. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into nearby bushes.
“No arrests have been made at this stage. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or submit an anonymous tip via the MySAPS mobile application,” Brigadier Muridili said.
The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, extended his condolences to the officer’s family and colleagues.
“On Sunday, 14 September, we will be commemorating four of our officials who were killed in the line of duty. It is disheartening that we will be doing so with this recent incident still fresh in our minds. This serves as a reminder that we are under attack from criminals. We will not be deterred and will continue the fight against police killings and crime in this province,” Mthombeni said.
Station management, together with Employee Health and Wellness, has arranged for the family and colleagues of the deceased officer to receive the necessary psychosocial support.
