Cape Town – The South African Weather Service has warned that severe weather will affect seven provinces on Tuesday, 30 December 2025, including severe thunderstorms, flooding, damaging winds, hail and very hot conditions.
A yellow level 4 warning has been issued for parts of northwestern KwaZulu-Natal, the eastern Free State and southern Mpumalanga, where heavy downpours may cause flooding, along with damaging winds and hail.
A yellow level 2 warning is in place for Gauteng, much of the Free State, North West, parts of the Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga, with localised flooding, strong winds and small hail expected.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are forecast for the southern and western Northern Cape, as well as parts of the Western Cape, while very hot and uncomfortable conditions are expected in areas of the Northern Cape and Western Cape interior.
Most provinces can expect partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with afternoon showers and thundershowers, while the western parts of the country will remain hot to very hot.
Gauteng and the Western Cape will experience a very high UVB sunburn index, with residents urged to take precautions against prolonged sun exposure.
