Nkowankowa, Limpopo — Communities in Nkowankowa have been warned to stay vigilant after a 55-year-old woman was allegedly robbed of a significant amount of stokvel money during a home invasion on Saturday, 06 December 2025.
The Limpopo Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, said the incident occurred around 04:43 when the victim was returning indoors after fetching water.
“The victim was overpowered by two unknown suspects, one of whom pointed a firearm and demanded money. They forced her into a bedroom, where they took a plastic bag containing her stokvel savings and her cellphone,” Lieutenant General Hadebe said.
“The woman was pushed to the floor and sustained injuries, but fortunately, no shots were fired.”
She strongly condemned the attack and issued a reminder to communities.
“We urge everyone not to keep large sums of cash at home, particularly during the festive season when stokvel-related robberies rise sharply.”
Police and other relevant stakeholders attended the scene immediately, and investigations are ongoing. Lieutenant General Hadebe encouraged anyone with information to contact the nearest police station, use the #MySAPSApp, or call #CrimeStop on 08600 10111.
“The safety of our communities is a priority, and we appeal to residents to assist law enforcement in preventing such crimes,” she added.
