Johannesburg – A 32-year-old man is expected to appear before the Protea Magistrate’s Court today on charges of attempted murder and child abuse, following the alleged assault of his four-year-old daughter in Eldorado Park.
According to police, officers responded to a complaint on Wednesday, 6 August, about a man allegedly physically abusing a child at a residence in the area.
On arrival, community members directed the officers to a backyard shack that was closed.
“Upon entry, police found a man with a young boy and a girl. The girl, who was lying in bed, had visible head injuries, bruises, and a swollen eye,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.

The man, who identified himself as the children’s father, reportedly failed to provide a clear explanation of the girl’s injuries.
The suspect was immediately arrested, and the injured child was rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.
Further investigations by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit led to the arrest of the child’s mother. She has since been charged with defeating the ends of justice.
Police investigations continue.
