Mpumalanga – The South African Police Service has dismissed allegations by a man accusing officers in Nkangala District of drug trafficking, describing the claims as “untrue” and contradictory.
Police said the same individual previously worked with authorities, providing intelligence that led to arrests and drug seizures in late 2025 and early 2026.
“It is therefore surprising and disturbing to hear the same individual now making statements that undermine the integrity of our officers,” SAPS said.
The allegations, circulated in a video, also suggested police covered up an incident involving 54 children who fell ill after consuming snacks. Authorities rejected this claim.
“There was nothing that was swept under the carpet by Police,” the statement said, adding that a media briefing had already addressed the matter.
Police further criticised the handling of the allegations, saying their office “was not given an opportunity to reply or respond,” raising concerns about “the integrity of this particular media house”.
Meanwhile, SAPS confirmed the man has his own legal troubles.
“A case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) was opened against the man… which resulted in his arrest,” police said, adding he has since appeared in court and is out on bail.
Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi urged the public to avoid spreading unverified claims.
“We encourage the public to engage with us through appropriate channels… We are here to serve and protect,” he said.
