Pretoria – Head of SAPS Crime Intelligence Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Friday following his arrest along with other senior police officials at OR Tambo International Airport.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed the arrests but has not disclosed specific charges.
Reports suggest the matter may relate to alleged unlawful appointments.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of an integrated law enforcement parade in Cape Town on Thursday, SAPS National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola also confirmed the arrest of Lieutenant-General Khumalo.
“I also picked it up now from the provincial commissioner of Gauteng. He just told me that he [Khumalo] has been arrested by ID. That’s all I can say. What for? I don’t know,” Masemola said.
