Trenance Park, KZN – A 24-year-old man sustained burns after an explosion occurred while he was burning refuse outside his home on Casper Crescent this afternoon (Wednesday).
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the victim told members that the pile of rubbish contained mixed items.
“As the fire intensified, there was a sudden explosion,” RUSA reported.
The man suffered burns to his right hand and minor burns to his right leg.
Paramedics attended the scene and provided first aid before transporting him for further medical care.
No further injuries were reported, and authorities have not yet confirmed what specific items in the rubbish caused the explosion.
RUSA reminded residents to exercise caution when burning waste, particularly when it contains unknown or mixed materials.
