Midrand, Gauteng – South African Police Service (SAPS) officers seized approximately R20 million worth of cocaine during a targeted intelligence-led operation at a small holding in Midrand on Tuesday evening.
Police spokesperson brigadier Athlenda Mathe, confirmed that the operation was the result of detailed crime intelligence.
“A multidisciplinary team, led by Crime Intelligence Head Office and including the Gauteng Organised Crime Unit, SAPS JHB K9, and members of the Local Criminal Record Centre, were acting on information regarding drugs stored at a plot in Blue Hills, Midrand,” Mathe said.

The investigation revealed that the drugs, brought into South Africa from a neighbouring country, were intended for distribution in Cape Town, Western Cape.
“The cocaine was discovered hidden in a storage room on the identified plot,” Mathe said.
A 56-year-old man, believed to be the owner of the property, was arrested during the operation. Police have seized approximately 80 kilograms of cocaine.
“The suspect is expected to appear before the Midrand Magistrate’s Court later this week on possible charges of possession and dealing in drugs,” Mathe confirmed.
