KwaZulu-Natal – Two puppies were found abandoned inside a sealed box on a street in Verulam, north of Durban, prompting concern from animal welfare responders.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa, the animals were discovered on Russom Street on Sunday morning.
In a statement, RUSA said: “Two (2) puppies were found abandoned inside a sealed box on Russom Street in Verulam – KZN this morning (Sunday).”
A member of the public who found the puppies transported them to the organisation’s headquarters.
RUSA confirmed: “A member of the public arrived at the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Headquarters at approximately 11:17 to hand over the animals after discovering them abandoned just outside the McDonald’s.”
Authorities said the puppies had been confined inside a closed container.
“It was established that the dog, described as two (2) black male puppies of an unknown breed, had been placed inside a brown sealed box and left at the location,” the organisation said.
The puppies were safely removed and are now in the care of reaction officers.
RUSA added: “The animals were safely removed from the box and are currently in the care of Reaction Officers.”
No further details were immediately available regarding the circumstances of the abandonment.
