Cape Town – Three police officers have been arrested in Embalenhle, Mpumalanga, for their alleged role in the death of a 33-year-old motorist after a multi-vehicle accident on 17 August.
According to police, the man fled the accident scene on foot and was later caught by the officers, who allegedly assaulted him by throwing stones.
He was taken to hospital but died hours later.
Following an investigation by SAPS detectives and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), the officers, aged 32 to 35, were arrested on 25 August.

They face charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice and are due to appear in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on 26 August.
“The three SAPS members are facing charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice, after allegations emerged that the man was allegedly assaulted shortly after the collision, which could have somehow contributed to his death,” police said.
