Kimberley – A 37-year-old man was arrested in Lerato Park on Friday after police discovered dagga with an estimated street value of nearly R100,000 at his residence, the South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed.
According to provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sergio Kock, members of the Kimberley Public Order Policing (POP) unit and Roodepan SAPS acted on intelligence regarding drug activity in the area.
They raided the suspect’s shack around 9:00am and confiscated 13.65kg of dagga.
An undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be proceeds from the sale of dagga, was also seized during the operation.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of dealing in dagga.
The arrest formed part of Operation Shanela II, a targeted police initiative aimed at disrupting drug trafficking and other criminal activities in hotspot areas across the Northern Cape.
“Operation Shanela II will continue in its quest to dismantle drug trafficking and address all forms of illegal activities in order to reduce crime and reclaim our communities from criminals,” said Kock.
