Cape Town – Seven people lost their lives instantly in a horrific crash on the N12 between Ogies and eMalahleni on Monday morning (8 December 2025) when a sedan and a light delivery vehicle (LDV) collided, according to the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCSSL).
The department said that the crash occurred after one of the vehicles “seemingly lost control and veered completely off the road and crossed into the opposite direction before colliding with the vehicle in the opposite lane.”
The N12 in that section has multiple lanes in each direction with a median dividing the roadways, which suggests that one of the vehicles was likely moving at high speed.
Five of the deceased were in the sedan — two females and three males — while the LDV’s two victims were both male. Authorities confirmed that there were no survivors in the collision.
A DCSSL spokesperson emphasised that the investigation is ongoing.
“The investigation into the collision by the police, Road Traffic Management Cooperation and the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, is already underway. However, reckless negligent driving cannot be ruled out,” the statement read.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr. Jackie Macie, urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads.
“Let us all be cautious on the road to curb needless loss of life and injury on the road. We should all endeavour to abide by the rules of the road at all times,” Macie said.
The tragedy has again highlighted the dangers on high-speed national routes and reinforced calls for vigilant and responsible driving to prevent further fatalities.
