Polokwane – Police, in collaboration with Sekhukhuza KNP, arrested three suspects aged between 29 and 38 for possession of game during a joint operation in Mbaula Village, Giyani, on Wednesday, 27 August, at approximately 11:30.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the operation followed information received about suspected poaching activities in the area.
“It is reported that the team received information, about suspected poachers in the area. They accurately followed the leads, which resulted in the arrest of the suspects. They were found at separate locations in the Village. During the arrests, police recovered fresh crocodile skin and a dead vulture,” Ledwaba said.
The suspects subsequently guided police to a site inside the local river, where a full crocodile carcass, stripped of its skin, was retrieved.
The three individuals are expected to appear in Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 29 August, facing charges of possession of game. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Colonel Ledwaba emphasised the importance of community cooperation in combating illegal wildlife activities, noting that operations like these are critical in protecting South Africa’s biodiversity.
