Durban – Two elderly residents were left shaken after an armed suspect stormed their home in Mimosa Road, Lotusville, KwaZulu-Natal, on Tuesday.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), a 75-year-old man and a 94-year-old woman were at their residence when the incident occurred. A 56-year-old woman was also on the premises at the time.
RUSA said the suspect entered the property through an open gate while armed with a knife.
“The victims informed members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) that the suspect rushed onto the premises carrying a long kitchen knife with a pink handle. He approached the fifty-six (56) year old female and threatened her with the weapon before taking the cellphone that was in her possession,” the organisation said in a statement.
The suspect then moved further into the house.
“He entered a room inside the property and stole a second cellphone. He thereafter fled the scene on foot,” RUSA said.
Reaction officers conducted an extensive search of the surrounding area, but no arrests had been made at the time of publication.
The suspect was described as wearing a maroon T-shirt, navy blue pants and a cream-coloured round hat. He was reported to have an untidy appearance.
No injuries were reported during the incident. Police investigations are ongoing.
