Durban – A 50-year-old gardener from Hazelmere was injured during a violent robbery at knife point in the Verulam Central Business District (CBD) on Saturday morning.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the man was on his way to board a minibus taxi to his workplace in La Lucia when he was confronted by four armed suspects on Todd Street.
During the incident, one of the attackers attempted to stab the gardener. The victim fought back and managed to disarm the assailant, sustaining a laceration to his left hand in the struggle.
While he was engaged with one suspect, another seized his Samsung A16 cellphone from his pocket. All four suspects fled the scene in separate directions.
Paramedics from RUSA attended to the injured man at the scene and provided medical assistance. No arrests have been reported so far, and police are investigating the incident.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any information that could assist in apprehending the suspects.
