Durban – A house fire on Midmar Road in Shallcross claimed the lives of an elderly couple and left six others injured early Tuesday morning.
ALS Paramedics Medical Services confirmed they responded to the blaze shortly after 06:30, arriving to find the eThekwini Fire Department already on scene battling the flames.
“Paramedics assessed six occupants who had managed to escape the residence. All sustained minor injuries,” the medical service said in a statement.
Once the fire was extinguished, paramedics were called inside the residence, where they discovered the bodies of a man and woman believed to be in their late sixties. Both were declared dead at the scene.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage. The South African Police Service (SAPS) was on site and has launched an investigation.
