Phoenix, KZN – A 75-year-old woman was found semi-conscious and robbed in her first-floor flat in Palmford Place, Sunford, on Friday morning.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said its members responded to a call for assistance at about 08:42 after concerned neighbours raised the alarm.
“On arrival, it was established that neighbours had attempted to contact the elderly woman without success,” RUSA said.
“Fearing for her safety, they forced entry into her flat and discovered her on a sofa in the living room, unresponsive and in distress.”
According to RUSA, the flat had been ransacked and packets of medication were found in the kitchen, although it remains unclear if they belonged to the victim or were left behind by the suspect.
An eyewitness told reaction officers she saw “an unfamiliar woman exiting the block of flats yesterday afternoon … carrying two packets filled with unknown items.”
RUSA said the pensioner, due to her medical condition, has not yet been able to provide an account of what transpired.
The investigation is continuing.
