Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal – A 76-year-old woman sustained moderate injuries in a hit-and-run collision at the corner of Northern Drive and Palmview Drive in Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday morning.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) reported that one of its patrol officers came across the injured pedestrian and immediately stopped to assist.
“Our member found the elderly female injured on the roadside and promptly called for paramedics,” said a RUSA spokesperson. “RUSA Paramedics stabilised her at the scene before transporting her to a medical facility for further treatment.”
According to witnesses, the vehicle involved, described as a black car, briefly stopped after striking the woman before fleeing the scene. The witnesses also alleged that the driver was a male wearing a South African Police Service (SAPS) uniform.
“This is a deeply concerning incident,” the RUSA spokesperson added. “We urge anyone with information about the vehicle or the driver to come forward and assist authorities in ensuring accountability.”
Police have not yet confirmed the involvement of a SAPS member, and investigations into the hit-and-run are ongoing.
