Limpopo – An 18-year-old man from Ga-Kopa in the Tafelkop area (Motetema), Limpopo, appeared in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 11 March 2026, accused of raping his 10-year-old disabled biological brother.
The suspect was remanded in custody until 18 March 2026, when a formal bail application is expected.
According to South African Police Service (SAPS) details, the alleged incident took place on Thursday, 26 February 2026, while the victim’s mother was attending a funeral.
The matter came to light when the mother noticed her son was in pain during bathing. Two days later, the child disclosed that his elder brother had raped him.
The case was reported to Motetema Police Station on Monday, 10 March 2026. It was then transferred to the Groblersdal Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, leading to the suspect’s arrest the same day.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe strongly condemned the alleged crime.
“This crime, allegedly committed by a biological brother against a vulnerable child, is particularly shocking,” Lieutenant General Hadebe said.
“Parents and guardians must report this type of heinous incident immediately to the police, regardless of who the perpetrator is. The SAPS will pursue it with the utmost seriousness, and the FCS will ensure a thorough investigation. The suspect must face the full consequences of the law.”
The identity of both the accused and the victim is protected due to the minor’s age and disability status.
No further details on the victim’s specific disability or additional charges have been released at this stage.
The investigation continues.
