Johannesburg – The uMkhonto WeSizwe (MK) party in Gauteng has demanded the arrest of hostel dwellers accused of shooting and killing one member and injuring two others during a recruitment drive at Dube hostel in Soweto.
MK spokesperson Abel Tau said the attackers — allegedly linked to the IFP — disrupted the event by cutting electricity and later assaulting members when they used a generator, The Citizen reported.
One man opened fire while a woman used pepper spray.
Police at the Dube station allegedly refused to open a case, and a third MK member was later shot and wounded at the hostel.
Gauteng police have since confirmed an attempted murder case.
On Monday the MK party vowed not to be intimidated by violence.
“As the MK Party, we unequivocally state there will be no ‘no-go zones’ in Gauteng or anywhere else in the country. We will not yield to acts of political intolerance and intimidation,” it said in a statement.

The party warned against any attempt to return South Africa to “the days of political violence in trains, hostels and communities” and urged its members not to retaliate.
“We call on all our members and supporters to refrain from responding to this cowardly violence with retaliation against members of other political parties,” the MK Party said, stressing that its struggle remains a “peaceful revolution dedicated to the complete liberation of black people.”
