Limpopo schoolgirl scalds classmate in shocking study camp attack

Polokwane – Police in Limpopo have launched an investigation after a 19-year-old male learner was severely burnt when a fellow learner allegedly poured boiling water on him during a school study camp in Seleteng village.

The incident occurred at a secondary school in the early hours of Sunday, 26 October 2025, around 04:30, while the learners were camping at the school in preparation for their final examinations.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the male learner was reportedly asleep inside one of the classrooms when an 18-year-old female Grade 12 learner approached him and accused him of touching her private parts.

“The complainant allegedly denied the allegations, and the suspect initially left but later returned and poured him with boiling water,” said Colonel Ledwaba.

The victim sustained serious burn injuries and was rushed to hospital for medical treatment.

Police have since opened a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).

“At this stage, no arrest has been made, and the investigation is continuing,” Colonel Ledwaba confirmed.

Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, condemned the incident and called for a thorough investigation.

“We take incidents of violence, especially among learners, very seriously. Such acts have no place in our learning institutions and must be dealt with decisively,” said Major General Scheepers.

“The investigation must uncover the full circumstances surrounding this incident so that justice is served.”

Police have urged members of the community to allow the investigation to unfold and to refrain from speculating about the matter.
