Cape Town – The Head of the Gauteng Department of Health and Wellness, Lesiba Arnold Malotana, has been placed on suspension with immediate effect by the Premiere of Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi – following investigations of corruption and irregularities at the Tembisa Provincial Tertiary Hospital.
According to the Spokesperson for Gauteng Provincial Government, Elijah Mhlanga, Lesufi announced the appointment of Dr Darion Barclay, as the acting Head of the Depatment of Health and Wellness, on 14 October.
“Dr Barclay, who currently leads the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), will ensure stability and continuity in this critical department and his appointment highlights the importance of prioritising seamless service delivery,” said Mhlanga.

He added that on Thursday, 16 October, the Premier’s Office will also make the signed performance agreements of all Members of the Executive Council (MECs) available to the public.
“The Gauteng Provincial Government reaffirms its full support for the work of the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) and other law enforcement agencies.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to root out maladministration and to uphold the highest standards of accountability and ethical leadership,” concluded Mhlanga.
