Cape Town – A 40-year-old suspect is set to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 23 July, in connection with the murder of Ekurhuleni senior auditor Mpho Mafole.
Police are also searching for a second suspect, Hlanganani Agripper Mncwango, after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
“On 20 July 2025, the team arrested a 40-year-old man who is expected to appear before Kempton Park Magistrates’ court on 23 July 2025. The team is also looking for a second suspect by the name of Hlanganani Agripper Mncwango, after a warrant of arrest was issued for him by the court,” police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said in a statement.
“The police urge Mncwango to hand himself over to the nearest police station or anyone who may have information about his whereabouts to contact the Crime Stop Line at 08600 10111 or anonymously give tip-offs on MySAPS App which can be downloaded on any smartphone.”

Mafole was shot and killed near Esselen Park while driving on the R23 in Kempton Park.
At the time of his death, he was part of a team investigating a R2 billion electricity billing scandal in the City of Ekurhuleni.
His murder has sparked outrage, with Parliament’s cooperative governance committee calling it a shocking act meant to intimidate anti-corruption efforts.
