Cape Town – The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a heatwave warning for parts of North West, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga, expected to persist until Friday.
A heatwave is declared when maximum temperatures exceed 5°C above the average for the hottest month in a specific location for three or more days.

“A heatwave with persistently high temperatures is expected over the central and south-eastern parts of the North West and the northern parts of the Free State until Wednesday,” warned the weather service on Sunday.
SAWS advised residents to stay indoors, wear lightweight clothing, apply sunblock, and stay hydrated.
Vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and infants, require extra care, and outdoor activities should be limited during peak heat hours from 10:00 to 16:00.
