Cape Town – Former Bosasa chief operating officer Angelo Agrizzi pleaded guilty to three counts of corruption and one count of money-laundering in a landmark agreement with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) on 6 November 2025.
In the plea and sentence deal, Agrizzi was sentenced to a total of 40 years’ imprisonment — 10 years for each count — but all of the sentence was suspended for five years on condition that he fully cooperates with ongoing investigations.
The agreement was reached with the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) and recorded by the NPA.
According to the IDAC’s statement, “while the crimes committed were severe — representing a critical component of state capture — the agreement secures a definitive conviction and mandates Agrizzi’s continued and truthful co-operation.”

He told the court that the contracts, awarded to Bosasa and its subsidiaries, were secured through payments and other “gratifications” to high-level officials.

He also gave detailed testimony in the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into state capture, describing how bags of cash and “monopoly-money-style” payments were handed to politicians and senior officials.
Presiding Judge Papi Mosopa noted that Agrizzi must “bear in mind that because of your involvement in these offences, the president of this country was forced to establish the Zondo Commission.” The judge warned that failure to comply with the cooperation conditions will trigger immediate imprisonment.
