Parys – The South African Police Service in the Free State has launched a murder investigation after the body of an unidentified woman was recovered from the Vaal River.
Police said members in Parys made the discovery on Monday, 20 April 2026, at approximately 06:30.
The deceased is described as an African female believed to be around 30 years old.
Her identity remains unknown.
According to police, the woman’s body was found with her hands bound above her head using cable ties, while her feet were tied with a rope.
At the time she was found, she was wearing a pink shirt with the word “beginners” printed on it, along with white Adidas tekkies.
Police are appealing to members of the public who may be able to assist in identifying the woman or locating her next of kin to come forward.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Elias Tshabalala or call the Crime Stop hotline on 08600 10111. Information can also be submitted anonymously via the MySAPS app.
Investigations are ongoing.
