KwaZulu-Natal – Three men were shot while sleeping in separate rooms at a compound in Hazelmere during the early hours of Wednesday, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) confirmed.
The RUSA Operations Centre received a call for assistance at approximately 01:49. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found that suspects had entered three different rooms and opened fire on the occupants.
“Two of the men were declared deceased at the scene,” said a spokesperson for RUSA.
“The third victim was rushed to hospital for medical attention. The extent of his injuries is currently unknown.”
Preliminary reports indicate that one of the deceased was a taxi driver. Authorities have not yet established a motive for the attack.
“Spent 9mm cartridges were recovered at the scene,” the RUSA spokesperson added. “Investigations are ongoing to identify the suspects and determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
Police and emergency services continue to investigate the shooting, urging anyone with information to come forward.
