Cape Town – Police in Mpumalanga have launched a manhunt following a brazen armed robbery at the Mhala (Thulamahashe) Traffic Department, where an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen late on Tuesday night.
According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the incident occurred at around 23:40 on 16 July 2025.
It is alleged that six armed men attacked three on-duty security guards who were patrolling the premises.
“The suspects, armed with pistols and a rifle, overpowered the guards and forced them into one of the offices at gunpoint,” said Ndubane.
“They then proceeded to forcefully open two burglar doors at the main entrance and damaged all security barriers leading to the room where the safe was kept.”
