Cape Town – Western Cape police are investigating three counts of murder following a shooting at a taxi rank in Delft on Thursday morning.
At approximately 06:15, officers responded to reports of gunfire at the taxi rank on Delft Main Road, Voorbrug. Upon arrival, they discovered two men, aged 55 and 58, had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Medical personnel declared both deceased at the scene.
A third victim, aged 38, was rushed to a nearby medical facility but later died from his injuries.
“Preliminary reports indicate that a Toyota Quantum stopped at the taxi rank and shots were fired from inside the vehicle,” the South African Police Service (SAPS) said. “The suspects thereafter fled the scene.”
Detectives from the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit have taken over the investigation. SAPS confirmed they are probing three counts of murder and indicated the attack may be linked to the taxi industry.
The police urged the public to come forward with any information. “Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is kindly requested to contact CrimeStop on 08600 10111 or alternatively make use of the MySAPSApp. All information will be treated with the strictest confidentiality,” SAPS said.
The incident adds to growing concerns over violence in the Western Cape’s taxi sector, which has been plagued by disputes and clashes in recent years.
