“Members of Reaction Unit South Africa arrived on scene at approximately 22:14,” RUSA said.
According to the driver, he had accepted a trip request from Morningside to Riet River. Upon arriving at the pick-up point, three passengers entered the vehicle.
“He stated that three occupants entered the vehicle, two females and one male,” RUSA said.
While travelling, the two female passengers reportedly got out of the vehicle in Phoenix, leaving the male passenger to continue alone to Riet River.
“While en route, the two females alighted in Phoenix, leaving the male passenger to continue the journey to Riet River,” RUSA said.
“As the driver approached the destination, the male passenger allegedly produced a firearm and demanded valuables and the vehicle keys.”
The driver managed to grab the keys and fled on foot, abandoning the vehicle. The suspect then fired a single shot through the rear windscreen before fleeing the scene.
