Cape Town – The South African Police Service (SAPS) has opened an inquest docket after a 42-year-old man—suspected of fatally shooting his wife and 22-year-old girlfriend — was found dead.
According to police, the shootings occurred between 01:00 and 01:30 on Tuesday morning in the Ngobozana Administrative Area. The suspect was later discovered lifeless in the Gqathula locality, roughly 10km outside Lusikisiki’s central business district.
SAPS believes the man may have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding his death.
“Following the double homicide, the suspect fled the scene using the family’s vehicle, which was later discovered abandoned by police.
“An intensive search ensued until community members in Gqathula, alerted authorities after finding a man’s lifeless body in an open field with a 9mm pistol nearby,” police said in a statement.
“The deceased was positively identified as the suspect in the Ngobozana murders.”
Police have since opened a docket to investigate the exact circumstances surrounding his death.
