Polokwane – Limpopo police have arrested a grandmother and her grandson in connection with the murder of a 30-year-old man who was allegedly poisoned at Lemondokop Village in Sekgosese, Mopani District.
According to provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the suspects, aged 82 and 38, were arrested following an intensive investigation into the man’s death on Tuesday, 28 October 2025.
“Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased had been complaining of severe stomach pains and dizziness prior to his death,” said Ledwaba.
“He later lost consciousness and was declared dead inside an ambulance while being transported to the local hospital for medical treatment.”
Members of the community raised suspicions about the circumstances surrounding the man’s death and reported the matter to police on Friday, 31 October 2025.

“A case of inquest was initially opened while detectives commenced with a thorough investigation,” Ledwaba added. “During the course of the investigation, it was uncovered that the deceased’s uncle and grandmother had allegedly poisoned him.”
Both suspects were traced and arrested, and the inquest docket has since been amended to a case of murder. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
The pair are expected to appear before the Kgapane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 4 November 2025, facing murder charges.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, condemned the incident, describing it as “deeply disturbing.”
“It is heart-breaking to witness such acts of violence committed within families,” said Scheepers. “We commend our detectives for their swift and meticulous work that led to the arrest of the suspects. We also appreciate the community for promptly reporting the matter to the police and not resorting to violence.”
Police investigations are ongoing.
