Grade 9 learner stabbed as gang jumps fence at Boksburg High

Cape Town – The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has condemned the shocking stabbing of a Grade 9 learner at Boksburg High School in Ekurhuleni.

According to reports, a group of about eight boys allegedly jumped over the school fence on Thursday, 23 October 2025, gained access to the premises, and attacked the learner, stabbing him in the process.

The suspects have since been arrested and are being held at Boksburg Police Station, while the injured learner has received medical treatment.

Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane denounced the incident, reaffirming the department’s firm zero-tolerance stance on violence in schools.

“We are deeply saddened by this violent act and wish the injured learner a full recovery. We urge communities to play an active role in preventing such incidents and ensuring our schools remain safe spaces for teaching and learning. We are also grateful to law enforcement agencies for their swift action against this senseless crime,” said Chiloane.

The GDE was alarmed by another video a video circulating on social media shows a girl learner being physically and verbally assaulted by a boy learner at Christian Progressive College in Pretoria on Monday, 20 October 2025.

The Department strongly condemned the violent incident and has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding it. Psychosocial support will also be provided to the victim and all affected learners.

“It is completely unacceptable that a learner would be subjected to such physical and verbal abuse at school. Necessary action will be taken. Schools must be safe spaces where all learners are protected from any form of violence or intimidation,” said Chiloane.
