Gqeberha – Police in Gqeberha have launched a manhunt following the abduction of two newborn baby boys from the maternity ward at Dora Nginza Hospital on Tuesday evening, 20 May 2025.
According to police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit is investigating two cases of kidnapping after the infants disappeared from the Premature Unit (PREM) of the hospital.
The first incident was reported after a mother, who had breastfed her baby at approximately 18:55, returned at around 20:30 to find the infant missing.
A second mother later discovered her newborn had also vanished from the same ward. The first baby is just four days old, and the second is two days old.
Police have not released any further details about the possible suspects but confirmed that the FCS Unit is treating the matter with the utmost urgency.
The unit has appealed to the public for any information that might assist in locating the missing children.
“We urge anyone who may have seen or knows someone in possession of two infants under suspicious circumstances to come forward,” said Van Rensburg.
