Johannesburg – Traffic law enforcement agencies in Johannesburg will conduct a large-scale operation on Saturday, causing road closures, lane restrictions, and disruptions across key routes ahead of the G20 Leaders’ Summit.
The exercise will take place from 9 am to 1 pm, covering areas from the Nasrec venue to Sandton, Fourways, and Roodepoort.
The operation involves the Road Traffic Management Corporation, Gauteng traffic police, Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, and the South African Police Service.
Major affected routes include the N1, M1, N12, Jan Smuts Avenue, Rivonia Road, Grayston Drive, Hendrick Potgieter Road, and Nasrec Road, among others.

Authorities have advised alternative routes:

Roodepoort: Beyers Naudé Drive, Christiaan De Wet Road, Ontdekkers Road instead of Hendrick Potgieter Road.

Fourways: Main Road, Cedar Road, Witkoppen Road.

Sandton/Rosebank/Parktown: Side streets parallel to Jan Smuts, Oxford, or Rivonia Road, such as Corlett Drive, Sandton Drive, 11th Avenue.

Southern Johannesburg (Riverlea, Nasrec, Ormonde View): Chris Hani Road, Main Reef Road, Soweto Highway, N17, Aerodrome Road, Adcock Ingram Road.
The operation aims to prepare the city for smooth logistics and security during the summit.
