DURBAN – Four suspects involved in a house robbery were shot and injured during a shootout with police on Underwood Road in Pinetown on Tuesday afternoon, police confirmed.
According to Colonel Robert Netshiunda, law enforcement officers responded to a report of a robbery in progress at a residence on Oxford Road, Paradise Valley, Pinetown.
As police approached the scene, they spotted a white Volkswagen Polo travelling in the opposite direction and attempted to stop the vehicle.
“The driver of the vehicle ignored police instructions to stop and sped off, prompting a high-speed chase,” Colonel Netshiunda said.

The pursuit ended on Underwood Road where the suspects reportedly opened fire on the pursuing officers.
Police returned fire, resulting in a shootout. Following the exchange, all four suspects were found with gunshot wounds. Emergency responders treated the injured at the scene before transporting them to a nearby hospital under police guard.
Authorities recovered two firearms from the suspects, along with stolen items including a flat-screen television, jewellery, two luxury handbags, and various home appliances.
A manhunt is ongoing for a fifth suspect who narrowly escaped arrest during the incident.
Colonel Netshiunda confirmed that the injured suspects will appear in court once they have recovered sufficiently.
The police continue to investigate the case.
