Johannesburg – A 50-year-old Pakistani national has been arrested in Midrand for allegedly impersonating a registered medical practitioner and practising medicine illegally for more than a decade, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has confirmed.
According to a statement posted by the JMPD, officers from the Tactical Response Unit acted on information received on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, about a woman “who was allegedly impersonating a registered medical practitioner at a Medical Clinic, South Road in Midrand”.
JMPD officers proceeded to the clinic, where they found the suspect actively consulting with patients.

“She was requested to produce relevant documents authorising her to practise medicine including a valid practice number. The female failed to provide any such documentation,” the JMPD said.
During further questioning, the suspect allegedly admitted that she was not qualified to practise medicine.
“Upon further questioning, the suspect admitted that she had not completed her medical practitioner studies and did not possess the required qualifications or certificates,” the statement read.
She also reportedly told officers “that she had been practising as a medical practitioner for more than ten (10) years without valid documentation”.
Police seized several items from the consulting room, including patient records and medical stationery. “The officers seized six patients’ files, including stationery such as sick notes, prescriptions, and completed eye screening certificates,” the JMPD said. Officers also found “Prdp certificates and documents with different medical doctors’ names that were found in her consulting room”.
The suspect was arrested and is expected to face charges of fraud and contravention of the Health Professions Act.
