Durban – A cash-in-transit robbery on the N2 North Bound near Chesterville on Monday evening left one security guard injured and caused chaos as members of the public attempted to loot money scattered on the road, authorities said.
Paramedics arrived at the scene after police had secured the area, only to find hundreds of members of the public attempting to loot money scattered on the ground. SAPS quickly intervened, dispersing the looters.
ALS Paramedics were then directed to two security personnel who had been inside the CIT vehicle at the time of the robbery. One of the men sustained minor to moderate injuries as a result of an explosion during the incident and received treatment from the paramedics on site.

“The two security personnel were assessed by our team, and one of them required treatment for injuries sustained during the explosion,” an ALS spokesperson said.
Authorities have closed the entire N2 National Freeway in both directions to allow investigations to continue. Motorists have been urged to avoid the route.
“At this stage, SAPS will be investigating the events leading up to the robbery,” the spokesperson added.
No arrests have been reported, and police are appealing to anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
