Johannesburg – CCTV footage captured the fatal shooting of radio and TV presenter Warrick Stock, known as DJ Warras, in the Johannesburg CBD as he was leaving Zambesi House near Carlton Centre on Tuesday.
According to police, the suspect, described as a man with dreadlocks, approached and opened fire shortly after noon, leaving cartridges at the scene.
Gauteng police commissioner Fred Kekana says officers are hot on the heels of Warrick ‘DJ Warras’ Stock killers. Kekana says preliminary investigations suggest that DJ Warras was murdered for a hijacked building that his security company was guarding.

Authorities believe at least two suspects were involved and are tracing their movements and the weapon used.
While the motive remains unclear, police are investigating all possibilities, including links to hijacked buildings.
Stock’s sister has appealed for calm and respect as investigations continue, and police have called on the public to share any information that may assist.
“We have been here for a couple of hours, and we don’t know what to say. We ask South Africans to please give the police space to complete their investigation,” IOL quoted her as saying.

Meanwhile, Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie has condemned the killing of Stock, describing it as a brutal murder and expressing anger over what he also believes may be linked to building evictions in the Johannesburg CBD.
“I’m angry,” he said during an interview with eCNA.
“Why am I angry? Because he was totally against the hijacking of buildings. Illegal foreigners come here, they hijack buildings and today they killed one of our own.”
He added: “I’m waiting for the police minister to tell us who killed him, but I can bet my last cent it’s illegal foreigners who have hijacked our buildings. We hope this is the turnaround when it comes to taking back our buildings.”
