Cape Town – Johannesburg police have identified a woman as a key person of interest in the murder of media personality Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock, as authorities step up their probe into the high‑profile killing that shocked South Africa.
Johannesburg’s MMC for Public Safety, Mgcini Tshwaku, confirmed that the woman is believed to have been a former tenant at the Zambesi building in the city’s central business district — the location where DJ Warras was fatally shot on 16 December 2025.
Police have launched a manhunt for those responsible, with several people connected to the case being identified for questioning.
“There’s a woman who is cited as the kingpin and who also features in the protection order. She is a woman of interest,” Tshwaku told reporters, as he outlined early developments in the ongoing investigation.
According to Tshwaku, DJ Warras had reportedly received threats in the weeks leading up to his murder — threats serious enough that he obtained a protection order against certain individuals just days before he was killed.
“There’s a committee that has been threatening Warras, and some of them said that because he was trying to remove them, they would see him ‘in the bush’. That is why he had to obtain a protection order,” he said.

Police have so far taken at least five people in for questioning in connection with the case while investigations continue. As reported by local media, authorities have been poring over CCTV footage from the Zambesi building area in an effort to trace suspects and piece together the sequence of events that led to the shooting.
Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tinswalo Sibeko emphasised that no arrests have been made at this stage. “There has been no suspect who has been taken in for questioning or arrested as the investigation is continuing,” Sibeko said, urging anyone with information to come forward.
Gauteng police commissioner Fred Kekana says officers are hot on the heels of Warrick ‘DJ Warras’ Stock killers. Kekana says preliminary investigations suggest that DJ Warras was murdered for a hijacked building that his security company was guarding.
