Cape Town – The South African entertainment industry is still reeling from the sudden and violent death of media personality Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock, with colleagues and friends describing the loss as deeply painful and difficult to process.
DJ Warras was shot and killed in the Johannesburg CBD earlier this week, an incident that has sent shockwaves through the media fraternity and raised renewed concerns about crime and safety in the city.
Those closest to him say the reality of his death has not yet sunk in.
As stated by Mzansi Magic presenter Japhta Mohlobane during a memorial gathering, DJ Warras was admired not only for his talent but also for his character.
“He was a trailblazer, a true patron who stood firmly with his ideals and treated everyone on set with the same love and respect, from drivers to producers,” Mohlobane said.
Colleagues described him as someone who made a lasting impression wherever he worked. According to EWN, several industry figures said DJ Warras was passionate about uplifting others and took pride in mentoring young creatives.
Those who d¡ed yesterday had plans for today.
Even DJ Warras had gigs scheduled for December, yet ‘God’ had different plans for his life. 💔

As reported by TimesLIVE, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said the killing highlighted serious gaps in safety and protection, particularly for individuals who had previously raised concerns about their security. “Protection orders must serve as real shields for those who need protection,” Lesufi said, calling for stronger action from law enforcement agencies.
Sizwe Dhlomo says DJ Warras was a powerful broadcaster who used his fame to speak up for others.

Media personality Sizwe Dhlomo also reflected on DJ Warras’ life and potential, saying his passing was a major loss to the industry. “He had so much more to give and never really reached his full potential,” Dhlomo said in a tribute shared publicly.
Meanwhile, tributes have continued to pour in on social media, with fellow DJs and broadcasters expressing disbelief and heartbreak. Metro FM’s DJ Sabby wrote, “Askies, my brother,” while others described DJ Warras as fearless, kind and deeply committed to his work.
This one hurts. It’s been a hard pill to swallow since I found out.
Your story didn’t have to end like this, Warrick.
