Cape Town – The family of the late DJ Oupa Sefoka, known as DJ Sumbody, has requested privacy following the arrest of four suspects in connection with his 2022 murder in Woodmead, Johannesburg.
According to reports, they expressed gratitude to SAPS and the political killings task team for their efforts and acknowledged the emotional toll of the case.
“While this development marks a critical step towards justice, the family is reliving the trauma of his passing and request privacy and space during this time.
“The dedication of law enforcement [officers] has been instrumental in this case and we remain hopeful for a thorough legal process,” Times Live quoted the family as saying.
The family also thanked the public and supporters for their continued love and support.
Four suspects, including a Sandton businessman and three alleged hitmen, were arrested by Gauteng police on Tuesday, in connection with the murder of DJ Sumbody.
The suspects appeared in Alexandra Magistrate’s Court and face charges such as murder, conspiracy, and possession of illegal firearms.
The businessman, Katiso “KT” Molefe, is accused of ordering the hit, while the others allegedly carried it out.
Separately, Kenny Kunene, deputy president of the Patriotic Alliance, was suspended from party activities for a month after it emerged he was at Molefe’s home during the arrest.
PA leader Gayton McKenzie announced that Kunene will be investigated by lawyers of good character and temporarily removed as Johannesburg MMC for Transport.
“Kenny Kunene will be investigated. And I’m going to tell you who’s going to investigate him: lawyers of good character,” McKenzie said in a live broadcast on social media.
“While he’s being investigated, I’m going to remove him from being an MMC. I am going to write to them. I’m also going to tell him to stand back from politics for one month until the investigation is done.”
Kunene claimed, during an interview with Newzroom Afrika that he was at Molefe’s home to facilitate a potential exclusive interview for a journalist from his media outlet, Africa Global News.
“It was just a question of we were there at the time when the police were arriving, because less than five minutes of us being there. Whilst we were on the drive way, we had not even gone into the house, then the police arrived,” he said.
Kunene denied knowing Molefe and said his presence was coincidental.
