Cape Town – Police have linked the firearms used in the 2022 murder of DJ Sumbody (Oupa John Sefoka) to at least 10 other high-profile murder and attempted murder cases.
Four suspects, including businessman Katiso Molefe, were arrested in Gauteng and appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court, where their case was postponed to next Tuesday.
One of the firearms, an AK-47, was also used in the killing of Arman Swart.
“We now know that the same fire arm that killed Arman Swart, is the same fire arm that killed DJ Sumbody and his two bodyguards. And we we now know that the same suspects that were arrested in the Arman Swart case are also the same suspects that have been arrested in DJ Sumbody,” national police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said on Tuesday.
The arrests are the result of a joint investigation by the Political Killings Task Team and the Gauteng Organised Crime Unit.
“The political killing task team has been working closely with the Gauteng Organised Crime Investigation Unit, and this is where their investigation has brought us today, where we got four suspects in custody,” Mathe said.
