Jayden-Lee’s mother Tiffany Meek, 31, has been charged with murder, crimen injuria, and obstructing justice.
“According to a charge sheet presented to the court, the State is set to prove that Meek struck her son with a blunt object. The object is yet to be identified.
“It has been revealed that blood was found on Jayden-Lee’s bed, his school clothes and bag were also found in the apartment, as well as his schoolbooks, which had blood on them,” the report said.
An investigator told eNCA that the 11-year-old was allegedly severely beaten and was hidden under blankets.
The crime scene was described as gruesome, with claims that the body had been cleaned and someone had tried to remove blood using bleach— though traces were still detected under UV light.
Evidence at the scene may also have been tampered with, the investigator said.
During her court appearance in Roodepoort on Monday, she broke down in tears and said she would appoint a private attorney.
Deputy Police Minister Shela Boshielo expressed outrage over the case and confirmed that further arrests are possible as the investigation continues.
The motive for the murder remains unknown.
Meek will appear in court again on July 18.
Jayden-Lee was found unconscious and undressed on a staircase at their Fleurhof apartment complex.
His body was warm.
He had multiple bruises but no visible blood, and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
