Cape Town – Two law enforcement officers in the Western Cape have been arrested for alleged corruption following an undercover operation conducted by the Western Cape Anti-Corruption Unit.
According to the police, the arrests were made on 13 January after an incident that took place earlier this month in Parow.
Police said the two officers had stopped a motorist on Voortrekker Road on Monday, 5 January, for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
“Instead of arresting the driver for drunken driving, the officers allegedly opted for a R3,000 bribe,” police said.
Police further explained that the motorist later reported the incident, prompting an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Unit. “An undercover operation was conducted, which led to the arrest of the two law enforcement officers,” police confirmed.

The South African Police Service reiterated that corruption within its ranks will not be tolerated and called on the public to assist in exposing wrongdoing. “SAPS encourages victims of corruption to expose corrupters by coming forward so that an investigation can be initiated,” police said.
The two suspects are expected to make their first appearance in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court soon as investigations continue.
Police have urged members of the public to report corruption through Crime Stop or the MySAPS App as part of ongoing efforts to combat crime and unethical conduct within law enforcement.
