Cape Town – Limpopo police have arrested a 23-year-old suspect following a business robbery and a shootout with officers at Rapotokwane village, under the Rust de Winter policing precinct, on Monday morning, 5 January 2026.
According to police reports, three men targeted a local general dealer.
Two of the suspects allegedly entered the shop posing as customers.
While at the counter, one of them produced a firearm and threatened the employee, demanding cash, while the second suspect reportedly stole several items, including cartons of cigarettes and a flash machine.
The suspects then fled and joined a third accomplice waiting in a black Toyota Yaris.
Police officers conducting routine patrols soon encountered the fleeing suspects, prompting a shootout.

During the exchange, one suspect was shot by the police.
He was immediately transported to hospital under police guard and placed under arrest, while the other suspects fled.
The suspects abandoned their vehicle, which police confiscated.
Officers also recovered one pistol with an empty magazine at the scene.
The police have opened cases of business robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm, and the arrested suspect is expected to appear before the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court once medically fit.
A manhunt is ongoing for the remaining suspects.
